Jim Huffman Responds to Ron Wyden's Blatant Election Year Posturing |
|

"Oregonians need a senator who stands up for them all the time, not just in the months before an election"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 3, 2010
PORTLAND– Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Huffman made the following statement in response to Sen. Ron Wyden's letter to Oregon Health Authority director Bruce Goldberg. Wyden is now encouraging the state to seek a waiver from certain ObamaCare rules.
“Ron Wyden claims that he stands up for Oregon, but when he was the deciding vote on the Obamacare legislation he was standing up for his party – not for Oregonians. Now Ron Wyden is trying to backtrack by offering a carve-out for Oregon that would not be effective until 2017 – long after the legislation is already in effect. It’s easy to see that Ron Wyden is posturing during an election year, trying to cover up for 30 years of ineffectiveness in the U.S. Congress. Oregonians need a senator who stands up for them all the time, not just in the months before an election.”

Oregonians Watch as Their Tax Dollars Flow Into Other States
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2, 2010
PORTLAND – The Census Bureau report on fiscal year 2009 federal spending reveals that Oregon was all but forgotten during the last year’s record spending spree.
“It is insulting to Oregonians that Ron Wyden keeps voting for deficit spending despite knowing that twice as much money is going back to Hawaii, Virginia and Alaska than is coming home to Oregon,” Huffman said of the report.
Oregon ranked the fifth lowest beneficiary of per capita spending among all states. In a year that saw the federal government increase domestic spending by 16%, to $3.2 trillion, Oregon was largely left out.
Oregonians are being forced to shoulder the burden of this crushing debt without receiving much in return. While battling severe unemployment and a crippled economy, every Oregonian’s share of the current national debt is more than $43,000.
Huffman was to the point, stating that, “Despite 30 years of posturing and tough talk, Ron Wyden has been either unable or unwilling to stand up for Oregon when we need it the most.”

Huffman Comments After Arizona Ruling: |
|
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:15 |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 28, 2010
PORTLAND – U.S. Senate Candidate and Constitutional Law Expert Jim Huffman today issued the following statement regarding the recent decision on Arizona Immigration laws:
“The recent litigation in Arizona is symptomatic of a larger problem: The federal government has failed to enforce existing laws placing an undue burden on states. Federal and state governments should be working with each other to solve this problem, not sitting on opposite sides in a courtroom. We need more resources focused on securing our borders and developing reliable guest worker programs. Given the overwhelming debt our leaders are racking up, the American people clearly deserve better. Despite the President’s 2010 budget with more than $3.5 trillion in spending, the federal government is failing to control our borders.”

Congressional Budget Office Reports Skyrocketing National Debt: |
|
Thursday, 01 July 2010 00:00 |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 1, 2010
PORTLAND – The Nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced today that our National debt will reach 62% of gross domestic product (GDP) by the end of 2010.
This is the highest rate of debt to GDP since WWII and highlights the consequences of the Democrats’ out of control spending agenda in Congress.
Sen. Ron Wyden voted for the nearly $800 Billion stimulus package to jump-start the economy. He voted for the Government to spend it’s way out of a recession. The result of Wyden’s voting record has been staggering unemployment and skyrocketing debt.
We must return fiscal responsibility to Washington D.C. immediately. The stimulus packages failed to help those who needed it most. The healthcare legislation is not economically feasible and will continue to add to our debt.
We can't balance the budget by spending more money anymore than we can change Washington by letting people serve for 30 years with no accountability. It is time to retire Wyden this November and rebuild America for future generations.

Poll Shows History is on Huffman's Side: |
|
Thursday, 24 June 2010 10:13 |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, June 23, 2010
PORTLAND – Jim Huffman is dramatically closing the gap on 30-year incumbent Sen. Ron Wyden according to newest poll.
The Rasmussen poll of likely Oregon voters, conducted on 06/17, shows Wyden below 50% support. For a career politician such as Wyden to be unable to earn at least 50% support shows that Oregonians are demanding real change.
There are also remarkable parallels to the Gordon Smith/Jeff Merkley race of 2008 that highlight Huffman’s success to date. At this same point in the ’08 Senate race, future winner Jeff Merkley was trailing Sen. Smith 47% - 38% in polls by the same firm. Notably, Merkley had spent a small fortune to get within 9 points, while Huffman has moved to within 10 with little spending at all.
Huffman is leading among non-affiliated voters, which is a clear reflection of his strong appeal across party lines. His common-sense views on the need for fiscal responsibility in government have resonated with voters of all political persuasions.
The mood of the electorate is increasingly clear: Oregonians are fed up with career politicians like Ron Wyden who routinely show a deeper commitment to protecting their own jobs than those of their constituents. Further, Wyden’s runaway spending has buried our country in a multi-generational mountain of debt that people all across Oregon understand must be stopped.
It comes as no surprise that 23% of likely of Oregon voters have a “Very Unfavorable” view of Wyden given his record of fiscal irresponsibility, catering to special interest groups, and allegiance to out-of-state interests and individuals.
Wyden’s voting record relating to jobs and the economy has proven time and again that he is out of touch with Oregon and must be retired in November
